BUILDING PERMIT

A building permit must be issued by the building inspector before constructing, repairing, transforming, enlarging or adding on to a building within the municipality. An application for a building permit must be completed at the municipal office located in the basement of the F.P. Adams community centre at 35, Kempt Road. You will need to provide the following:

        1. A site plan indicating the lot number, the frontage, the size of the lot and the location of the main building and secondary buildings.

        2. A plan or sketch of the planned construction.

        3. A description of the sceptic system and its location of the lot as well as the location of the well.

        4. When the planned construction is within a temporary or permanent agricultural zone, the application must be accompanied by an authorization certificate from the Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec or by a declaration from the owner that the project does not require authorization from the Commission. The owner must provide proof that a copy of the declaration has been sent to the Commission.

        5. The $20 fee has been paid for new buildings and $10 for other types of construction.

The secretary-treasurer will ensure the application in complete and will give it to the building inspector. The inspector will verify that the municipal plan's regulations are respected. If so, he will issue the permit within 30 days. If not, he will respond in writing giving the reasons for his refusal. A copy of all approved and refused permits must be sent to the Avigon MRC.

Building permits are void if the construction has not commenced in the six (6) months following the issuance of the permit or if the construction does not conform the approved permit.
