LOCATION
The municipality of Restigouche South East covers 48.95 square kilometres. It is bordered to the south by the Restigouche River and to the north by the Appalachian chain of mountains. The terrain is defined by the plains, plateaus and valleys dug by the two main branches of the Kempt River and its tributaries. Up river are the other main tributaries of the Restigouche, namely the Matapedia, the Patapedia, the Assemetquagan and the Kedgwick. Downriver is the Bay of Chaleur. The area is covered by a mixed forest and an abundant flora and fauna. One of Quebec's threatened plant species, the hooded arrowhead tidal sagittaria, can be found within the municipality.
To the west is the village of Matapedia. To the east is the native community of Listuguj and the village of Pointe-à-la-Croix. The Van Horne Bridge is located there. It spans over the Restigouche River to Campbellton, New Brunswick. The Restigouche River is the boundary between Quebec and New Brunswick over several kilometres.
Transportation:
The passenger bus service Orleans has a stopover in both neighbouring villages of Pointe-à-la-Croix and Matapedia. There is a railway service in Matapedia Two airports in the region offer commercial flights: Bathurst and Mont-Joli.
